This system provides the surgeon with the intuitive control, range of motion, fine tissue manipulation capability and 3-D visualization characteristic of open surgery, while simultaneously allowing the surgeon to work through small ports of minimally invasive surgery.

BrainSUITE, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

 

The Construction Owner’s Association of America (COAA) awarded M. D. Anderson’s BrainSuite with a Project Leadership Special Award at its Fall Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. The project was recognized for being a high-risk, unique project. The project team, P&W Architects, and Austin Commercial shared in the honor.

 

The BrainSuite, located in the 5th floor operating room, was completed in July 2006, and is home to the BrainSuite®

image-guided surgery system, bringing the most advanced surgical technology to brain cancer patients. The BrainSuite's intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) provides real-time views of the brain right in the operating room, allowing surgeons to remove brain tumors with greater accuracy and the best negative margins currently possible.

 

 

Oncology Center, Memorial Hermann Southeast

 

This new comprehensive cancer center, among the most advanced in Houston, was designed with the patient and staff in mind.  It offers a welcoming environment, as well as full-service, leading-edge radiation treatment to provide paramount patient experiences.

 

The picture is the Elekta Synergy Triple Energy Linear Accelerator - a first-of-its-kind radiation treatment system in Houston.  Previously, imaging studies were done days in advance of treatment.  This new,

state-of-the-art equipment suite combines high-resolution imaging with radiation therapy - allowing the doctor to visualize the body’s internal structures in real-time 3-D during treatment.  This capability ensures the radiation is extremely precise and customized to the tumor’s exact shape and location while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.
