Collaboration Creates a Cancer Center
PhiloWilke is proud to be the architect of record for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Texas Oncology and US Oncology Inc., who have joined forces to create a new cancer center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in West Houston. The collaboration involves the construction of a new 25,000 sf cancer center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.
Currently, Memorial Hermann Memorial City provides a variety of cancer services at several different areas on the campus, notes Keith Alexander, CEO of Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. “We are building a new cancer center that will enable us to provide new and expanded services under one roof,” he says. “We’ve been providing cancer services in the area for over 40 years, but this allows us to put together a comprehensive cancer center. The partnership is making many of these new services possible.”
One advantage to the new partnership, Alexander says, is that the multidisciplinary cancer physicians at the Cancer Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City will work together to discuss each patient’s case and come to an agreement on the best practice of treatment.
Memorial Hermann is investing about $12 million to build out and equip the new cancer center on the ground floor of Medical Plaza 4. Alexander expects the project to be built out by March 20, 2011.

• Deliver the project in a time frame that would allow the facility to be designed, documented, constructed and occupied in only eleven months.
• Obtain all necessary approvals required by the local code authority and community association, without impacting the very aggressive schedule.
The new center allows the doctors to enhance and extend their full range of services for cancer patients in the Southwestern Houston and Sugar Land communities. Patients will also have access to cutting-edge clinical research programs and trials designed to advance treatment for a wide range of cancers including breast, lung and prostate. The center can serve patients with the most advanced technologies and treatments in a single, nurturing, community-based setting.
